Activity:
The week’s activity involved the children finding the Queen’s crown which was stolen last week. The Queen sent the children a map with clues on to help find the shapes that had been hidden around the site.
We started by preparing some wooden slates of different shapes beforehand. Each slate had a number painted on one side and a letter on the other. The slates were hidden around the site so the children needed to use their skills to find them. They needed to look at the map and follow the clues. When the children found the slates, they had to solve a further puzzle which was inside an envelope. It was a large poster that had shapes and numbers on it. The needed to place the slates on the corresponding shapes and numbers. Then they had to try to sound out the letters, blend them and figure out what the message said. The message was:
"The crown is up high"
After searching around the site for a while, they eventually found the crown high up on a branch. The next challenge was to find a way to get it down by working together, using their initiative and imagination.
This weeks activity game encouraged the children to work together in a group, use their problem-solving skills but also focused on their literacy and phonics, as well as their number work, shapes, sizes, and orientation skills. We also spoke more about The Queen, what her name is, what her role is and where she lives etc.
