Activity:

For this weeks activity we needed the help of some woodland superheros to preserve The Woodland Nursery and ensure it stays in tip top ecological shape. We talked about what type of activities a woodland superhero might do and decided as a group that they would hold four essential values:-

  • Always ensure that no one breaks off branches or pulls leaves off of trees

  • Always pick up litter and put it in the bin

  • Always care for woodland creatures (including bugs and insects)

  • Always show respect for our woodland environment and everything in it

To make our woodland superhero costumes we started by looking for some large sycamore leaves that had fallen to the ground. We collected the leaves and tied two of them together using small sticks and some colourful wool. This made our wings. We then used scissors to cut some paper plates in half for our masks. We cut out eyelets and then decorated our masks using leaves, feathers and anything else we could find. We used a hole punch to make two holes on either side of our masks and threaded some wool through the holes so we could fasten them to our heads. Our costumes were now complete and we could get on with our task of keeping the woodland in prime condition for all to enjoy!

Home Activity:

Talk to your child about alternative everyday "superheroes". This could include someone who is a carer, someone who helps disadvantaged families or perhaps somebody who just does good deeds. Talk about why it's such a positive experience to help other people and describe how it makes you feel inside :)
