Activity:
The activity this week involved the children making a woodland keyring for a special person in their lives.
We started by finding a thick branch from which to cut a disc using a bow saw. After a talk about how to use the tools safely, the children cut the disc to size and then used sandpaper to smooth the round edges. They used a hand drill to make a hole in the centre of the disc and then chose to decorate it either using paint, pens (to write or draw) or they could stick things to it such as flower petals, grass or small leaves. They then threaded a piece of colourful string or wool through the centre of the hole to which they attached a keyring.
We talked about who the special person was in their lives and what makes them so special. We also discussed how they would decorate their keyring - were they going to paint it, write on it, draw on it or stick things to it?
Home Activity:
Talk to your children about keys and what they are/how they work etc. Have a look at different keys together and challenge the children to work out which key fits which lock within your home. Let the children try to use a key to unlock a lock and discuss whether they should be turning it clockwise or anticlockwise.
