Activity:

A Mandala is a circular spiritual and ritual symbol often seen in Hinduism and Buddhism which represents the universe. We decided to make Mandala Suncatcher's with the children this week which helps to develop a child's fine motor skills. This activity also teaches them how to use tools safely, supports mathematical development and allows them to experiment using different media and materials and also helps to support them in taking turns.

Using flowers in art brings another sensory dimension to the activity and we talked about different types of flowers, how they smell, how they feel etc. Using natural resources also gave us the opportunity to observe the natural world around us and the changes that happen during spring season such as blossom, new types of flowers, new insects and how the weather changes.

Home Activity:

Look at different flowers either in a park, garden, online or in a book and compare the different shapes, sizes, colours and patterns. Ask your child to paint or draw their favourite flower and then upload it to Tapestry.

This week we also had a really exciting day trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich:
