Activity:
This week we started by discussing the seasons and how Tuesday 20th March was officially the start of spring, the spring equinox and the astronomical start date for spring as opposed to the meteorological start of spring (which was on 1st March).
Then onto planting the cress seeds! We decorated a biodegradable plant pot by drawing a face on it, glueing on some googly eyes with the cress later growing to become the hair. The children wrote their names on their pots or on a seed label. We filled up the pot with some compost using a garden trowel, watered it and then sprinkled the seeds across the surface of the soil. The children took their pots home to put on a windowsill, water, and then watch as the cress begins to grow.
We need parents help for the last bit which will be to take a photograph once the cress has grown so we can upload it to Tapestry and into the children's personal journals.
Home Activity:
Walk around a garden or park with your child and see if they can spot any shoots growing out of the ground or in the trees and take some photos of them. Once at home, see if you can both identify what the shoots will grow into.
